Mollys House Miniatures
Tutorial - Roof tiles - 1/24th scale
This is a quick tutorial as to how I make my roof tiles.
You will need some card - I use the backs of writing / note pads but you could also use cereal packets etc.

Cut the card into strips 13mm (1/2") wide.

Make snips across the strip every 10mm (3/8"). The cuts go just over halfway. Each one of these "flaps" will be a tile.

Now you can make them irregular by cutting small pieces off the tiles in different places. The more you cut, the more distressed the roof will look.

Tip: I find it easier to draw 10mm lines across the card before I cut the srips. Much quicker than marking each one individually.

You can paint the strips before you stick them down or after.

Stick the tile strips across your roof, starting at the bottom and working upwards, overlapping half the strip each time.

It may be helpful to draw some guide lines across the roof piece to keep you inline as you go up the roof.

I painted using cheap acrylic paint.

You can add moss, stains from chimney, bird droppings......Etc.

You could make the tiltes smaller or larger depending on your project.

Enjoy!
